"Camp Eureka" - NEW!
Children will overcome a series of challenges using basic materials, simple machines, tips from famous inventors and the most important of all – their mind. With a little bit of ingenuity children will create catapults and forts, construct working light sticks to take home and assemble a set of circuits with batteries and light bulbs. While Thomas Edison said “invention is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration", this camp is 100% FUN!
Whether your child loves to build things or destroy them, this week of camp includes lots of both! The junior Mad Science engineers will design and build bridges and "skyscrapers" using simple tools and their imaginations. Kids will even construct a geodesic dome big enough for all the campers to sit inside! Then the machine madness starts . . . Children will discover how many different machines, simple & complex, we use in our daily lives. Campers will have fun building their own catapults to take home and will design simple machines using pulleys, wedges, screws and levers. After the simple machines, we move on to fun with the Mad Science robots! We'll play robot soccer, test line-tracking robots, and help our team direct our sound activated robots around an obstacle course, all the while learning the science of robotics!
Predator or Prey; which will you be? In our newly revamped Nature camp, kids will learn how animals, big and small, adapt to life here on earth. Campers will learn how birds and beasts catch their prey without becoming someone else's lunch and will then be challenged to survive in the pulse pounding "Food Chain Survival" game. Kids will also discover what Mr. Owl had on his dinner plate during the famous owl pellet dissection. We'll also have fun finding and magnifying Natures smaller critters—from insects to pond slime. Campers will build a real birdhouse to take home and will have creepy-crawly fun building a bughouse and searching for tenants! In addition, kids will enjoy hands-on fun learning how changes in wind, water and temperature can affect Earth's inhabitants.
In this weeklong camp, children will have fun while learning about the scientific equipment they already own—the human body. Kids will explore the science behind cells, organs, muscles and bones through fun, hands-on activities. Campers will use micro-slide viewers to see some of the tiny cellular machines that keep our bodies working and will play the "Cell game" to learn about the "stuff" inside cells. Fun experiments will help campers understand more about their senses, brains, breathing, circulation and digestion. Children will create model cells, make Mad Mucus and a simulated stomach, build simple stethoscopes and lung models, assemble a model skeleton and much more.
Throughout the week, brave young astronauts will explore the mysteries of the solar system and the science behind air and space travel. Students will learn how scientists study the planets and stars and what kinds of tools are used for space exploration. Children will discover not only how astronauts get into space, but also how they live and work once they get there. They will learn about gravity, propulsion and the basics of rocket science through fun, hands-on activities. Children will come to understand that propulsive forces can come from many sources, will experiment with balloon rockets and will make their own air rockets to take home. Most importantly, they will learn first hand about the aerodynamic properties of flying machines by building their own Estes© model rockets! Once the rockets are completed, children will blast off on a real Mad Science space mission with the grand finale, the rocket launch!
Due to the popularity of the original space camp we have developed a new more advanced Space program. In this program we will investigate unique flying machines, including building balloon-copters, boomerangs and a mini hovercraft as take home projects for the children. After the flying machines children will investigate how early “pilots” navigated, including building their own sextant and sundial. Finally the children will put all the learned skills together to build an intermediate level Estes™ Skywinder rocket. If your child enjoyed our first space camp, or are Astro“nuts” in general the will love this new space program.
In this weeklong program, campers will have tons of fun mixing up potions and experimenting with all kinds of chemical reactions! Our young chemists will grow crystals, create sidewalk chalk, and even make chromatography T-Shirts to take home. Students will also become science sleuths as they investigate how chemistry provides evidence at the scene of a crime. During this hands-on detective work, children will gather and test "crime scene" clues, make and analyze their own fingerprints, decipher codes and encrypt messages
Faster than a Speeding Bullet –More Powerful than a Locomotive –This camp is made for Super-Campers! Jump aboard the energy express and travel through time to discover the science behind power & motion. This journey will include in-class experiments such as a water powered turbine illuminating a light bulb, fuel cells cars demonstrating efficiency, and the combined power of electricity and magnetism to create the world’s simplest motor. Children will also build their very own electromagnet to take home. Students will discover renewable energy sources, such as the sun and wind, where they will build and test individual solar hot dog cookers and their own balsa wood airplanes. Watch your children will Light Up for this week of Mad Science!
"Sensational Week of Science I" - Super Slimy Smokey Science
Join us for a fun-filled week of science experiments and cool projects. Topics include Mad Machines, Earth’s Amazing Wonders, Rocketry & Flight, Survival! Predators & Prey, Shake it Up. Children will have loads of fun learning about simple machines and creating their own mini-sonic race car. They will also get a chance to investigate the basics of geology and the wonders of nature. All students will witness a thrilling outdoor rocket launch. Lastly, children will enjoy taking household items and mixing them up and investigate chemical change!
Become a Mad Science - Secret Agent and take a fascinating journey into the world of detection, forensics and classified information. Learn code language to send secret messages as part of your mission. Go undercover and decode messages from other agents using your top secret clearance. Investigate a pretend crime scene and sift through clues to crack the case. Join the Mad Science Bureau of Investigation to gain observational skills that are necessary for the job. Follow Sherlock’s footsteps to learn what tracks and trails can teach us. Take home projects include a detective kit, secret decoder, fingerprint kit and more!
Join us for a week of fun with amazing robots! In this full week of half-days, learn about the uses of robots in our world and spend time experimenting with super cool red-hot robots. Experiment with sound sensing robots, line-tracking robots, amphibious robots and robots that can even play soccer! Discover the science of circuits and how robots use sensors to explore things around them. Use your skills to build your very own working robot to take home with you!
