ELEMENTARY-AGE SUMMER WORKSHOP PROGRAMS

CALL OF THE WILD

All About Animals teaches children about the incredible, diverse life in the animal kingdom. Children learn how animals are adapted to their different habitats through specialized feet, fur, and feathers. Real tooth and claw replicas provide hands-on experience with the science of zoology. Activities about classification, camouflage, and animal life cycles introduce the diversity of animals on earth. Children step into the shoes of a naturalist as they create their own casts of animal tracks

DETECTIVE SCIENCE

Step into the role of a detective and discover how forensic science plays an important role in solving crimes. Find out if you would make a good witness when your observation skills are put to the test and take home an identification kit to record your fingerprints and other vital information.

DRY ICE CAPADES

è Requires Electricity or Hot Water

Children will be introduced to the scientific concepts of phase changes and states of matter. They will witness the phenomenon of sublimation as we demonstrate the unique properties of dry ice and the spectacular “smoke” it creates. The children will learn that dry ice is really frozen carbon dioxide and will experience the Mad Science burp, a display of bubbling potions and, finally, a thrilling grand finale!

MOVING_MOTION

Children catapult into Newton’s three laws of motion! They yank a cloth from under dishes and send crash dummies flying. They adjust the mass of two identical cars and learn how heavier objects need a bigger push to move the same direction. Children drop two plastic eggs (one heavier than the other) and find out they hit the ground at the same time! They see action-reaction forces at work as a fan cart races across the room and mini-rockets launch through the air. They twirl into action with the Newton Spinner take-home.

SCIENCE OF TOYS

Did you know that some toys work because of basic science principles? Children will bounce balls and experiment with a magnetic spin wheel among other classic toys to discover the science of motion through fun hands-on activities. Find out how our woodpecker toy works due to potential and kinetic energy and take home a bouncy ball that the students created themselves!

SLIME TIME

Ooze into a gooey hour of sliming around! In this program, we will explore, create and play with the most entertaining and useful molecule known to science, and discover its many shapes and forms. Child will create slime using the Mad Science recipe, and then enter the Slime Olympics!   Children even make their own slime that they get to take home and keep!

STUNT PLANES & GLIDERS

The Wright Brothers would be proud as we follow in their footsteps and learn the fundamental principles of flight. Build a “football” glider, a Delta Dart and your very own loop-flying stunt plane. You’ll be a Top Gun after this class!

JUNIOR REACTORS

Create a tiny world of atoms with your very own set of Atomic Coins! Children will learn the difference between physical and chemical reactions as they perform and observe engaging experiments. Junior scientists will discover how small atoms are and mix up reactive ingredients for some sensational results!

SUPER STRUCTURES

Discover the strengths of triangles, cylinders and arches. Learn how combinations of these shapes are used to build sturdy homes and skyscrapers! Children will build their own bridge and discuss the fundamentals of secure architecture.

BUGS

This class will introduce students to the realm of insects when they learn about their fabulous flying abilities, their unique eyesight, and the way they defend themselves against predators. Students will get an opportunity to see how camouflage works and see the world from a bug’s point of view

PRESCHOOL-AGE SUMMER WORKSHOP PROGRAMS

Animal Friends

We’ll bring the wild kingdom into the classroom! Your kids will listen to the sounds that animals make; feel some examples of fur, scales, feathers and skin; identify different ways that animals move; and make some animal footprints. If you think your kids love animals, this class is for them!

Bug Buddies

Get up close and personal with creepy, crawly bugs! Your preschoolers will learn how to tell the difference between bugs and insects, and how to answer questions like “how many legs does an insect have?” and “are all bugs pests?” The kids will even get to make a bug buddy to take home - don’t worry it’s not alive!

Digging for Dinos

Your kids will be little paleontologists in this exciting class! They will learn about when dinosaurs lived, what they ate, and how scientists know they existed. Your kids will participate in a dig for the “fossil remains” of a mystery dinosaur, and they will even cast their own T-Rex tooth to take home.

Human Body

Head, shoulders, knees and toes (knees and toes)!   This class focuses on a subject near and dear to us - our bodies. Your preschoolers will learn all about their hearts, blood, skin and bones with hands-on activities that will engage their minds. They’ll get to see the various parts of skeletons and use real stethoscopes.

Mad Mixtures

Exploration into the world of chemistry is the theme for this class. Through our Exploding Colors, Liquid Lasagna, and other experiments the children will gain an understanding of chemicals, chemical reactions and density. Then we’ll mix up a batch of play dough for them to take home!

Playing with Polymers

Giant molecule chains called polymers are vital to everyday life; and they can be lots of fun for kids. In this stretchy, slimy class, we will explore, create and play with the most entertaining and useful molecule known to science, and discover its many shapes and forms.

Powerful Plants

Get out your gardening gloves!   In this class all about plants, your junior botanists will learn where seeds come from and how they grow. They will discover how wild plants “plant themselves” through very clever adaptations involving wind, fire and wild animals. They will plant their own seeds to take home, grow, and eat!

Smoke & Bubbles

This workshop is really “cool.” Your kids will be mesmerized when we use dry ice to make bubbling potions, shivering quarters, popping corks, and a thrilling carbon dioxide shower. They’ll even learn that the “smoke” from dry ice tastes just like a soda burp!

Shapes and Structures

This class will shape the outlook of your preschoolers. Using felt boards and “magnatiles,” your kids will combine shapes to make 2-D pictures and 3-D structures. They’ll get to build and take home their very own structures made of cornstarch noodles and a little creativity!

Stellar Space

Your preschoolers will discover the wonders of space in this exciting and interactive class. We’ll learn about and see beautiful photos of our planet Earth, the sun and moon, and all the planets in our Solar System. We’ll even take a pretend trip to the moon where we’ll collect moon rocks and go on a moon walk just like real astronauts!
